A few decades back, the invention of plastic and styrofoam made great sense. It made our life easy. Especially, the disposable made up of these materials stimulated our fast-paced lifestyle. One-time use items such as plates, takeaways, coffee cups, plastic cutleries became an essential part of our lifestyle.
Today, we understand that the single-use plastics have become a nuisance to our environment. We’ve learned that it is not only clogging our landfills, destroying the ecosystem of our oceans but also adversely endangering our existence on this planet. More than 10 million tons of plastics waste ends up in the ocean each year.
Leafymade mission is to provide a sustainable alternative to the single-use disposables made of plastics and styrofoam. Leafymade disposables are made of natural and biodegradable materials that do not require complex industrial processes, bleaching, chemicals, glue, or any artificial substance. Thus, the carbon footprint is extremely low for its production. Leafymade´s flagship product is the disposable tableware made of leaves that comes in various shapes and sizes. (Leafymade shop )
While our products are enabling its consumers to adopt a sustainable lifestyle, Leafymade production process in India is empowering the tribal and underprivileged women. The leaf products are mostly handmade by the women who live deep into the forest of Odisha, India. At present, 200 women are involved in sourcing and production. Today, they have found a new source of income, a better work environment, and self-confidence. Read more: Why Leafymade!
Since the launch of Leafymade´s sustainable tableware in the Swedish market in November 2018, about a quarter-million units of leaf plates and bowls have potentially replaced 1,5 tons of plastic disposables. We were able to achieve this milestone with our partners and clients such as ICA Kvantum, Uppsala, Lagerhaus, Stora Coop Visby, Hemköp telefonplan Stockholm, Kooperativet Göteborg, SPG event AB, Stockholmsmässan, Nacka strandmässan, and others.
Now, we have reached a situation where we need to work with many more tribal women in order to scale up our production and operation to meet the increasing demand in Nordic countries. We have had the great year of 2019, where we established our product in the market, achieved a proof of concept, generated revenue over 500K SEK, and created a high demand for leaf disposables. In the year 2020, we aim for revenue of 2.5 MSEK, and thus we are now looking for new external capital of 2 MSEK through an equity crowdfunding campaign on Fundedbyme Platform.
We want to invite more people who wish to be a stakeholder in Leafymade and join hand to create a sustainable future. We would open our Crowdfunding campaign on 27th January for lead investors and a week later for the public. To know more about Leafymade business and financials, follow us through the link below.
